After months of repeated extensions of deadlines, the federal government on Monday, April 4, ordered telecommunications companies to enforce compliance with its National Identification Number-Subscriber Identity Module policy.
Following the federal government directives, over 72.77 million active telecommunication subscribers have been barred from making calls on their SIMs.
If you are one of those affected by the development, here is how to link your NIN with your SIM cards, according to the major phone networks in the country such as MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9mobile.

 

HOW TO CHECK YOUR NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (NIN).

To link your NIN to your SIM cards, you must have first enrolled for the NIN at the designated centers. Having successfully enrolled, you will be presented with a slip containing the National Identification Number ( NIN).

How to check or get your NIN if you have misplaced or lost your NIN Slip. You can also check your NIN just by using the USSD code on your phone. The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) asked Nigerians to use dial *346# to retrieve their NIN. The USSD code is available for subscribers using MTN, Airtel, 9mobile, and Glo networks.

Note: It must be the SIM card you used during the NIN registration.

All telecom networks in Nigeria have different ways of linking NIN with their SIM

 HOW TO LINK YOUR NIN TO YOUR MTN NUMBER.

There are five major ways to link your MTN number to your National Identification Number, I will be listing them one after the other.

 1)      Linking NIN with MTN number via shortcode: Dial *785# Input the 11 digits NIN, they will send a confirmation message if the linking is successful or not.
You can also dial *785*NIN Number# to link directly too.
2)      Linking your MTN SIM using the myMTN NG App:  First of all, you need to download the myMTN NG App on your phone if you don’t have it on your phone, log in with your Mtn Number, you will receive a One-Time-Password (OTP), insert it to the appropriate place and login. Once you log in, click NIN status and link your NIN there.
3)      Visit the Customer NIN Capture.  https://mtnonline.com/nin
 You will see the form where you will fill in your full name. Then put your MTN Mobile Number Type your NIN Fill in your email address then click on the 'SUBMIT' button.
4)      Linking Use TEXT MESSAGE: Go to your message, click write/compose a new message, type NIN Number, and send it to 785.
5)      By chatting with Zigi (MTN CHATBOT) on Telegram: Download the Telegram app on your phone, save their zigi number (+2349033000001)and start chatting with the bot. It will ask you to type your phone number then confirm with OTP, then click the NIN option and insert your NIN. You can all check your NIN status there.
 
HOW TO LINK YOUR NIN TO YOUR GLO NUMBER.
Follow the steps below to link your Glo Sim with your NIN.
1)      Send UpdateNIN (put space) NIN (put space) First name (put space) and Last Name to 109.
2)      Dial *777#
Select 1 (Register NIN)
Enter the NIN number.  It will show you a successful message.
 
 
HOW TO LINK YOUR NIN TO AIRTEL NUMBER.
Dial *121*1#
Input your 11 digit NIN.
You will receive a text message saying it's successful.
 
HOW TO LINK YOUR NIN TO 9MOBILE NUMBER.
Visit the website https://9mobile.com.ng/nin
Click on the green space with 'verify and link your NIN now' Enter your mobile number and fill in the requirements.
